Frame Building Process

At Kennedy Cycle Fit

we pride ourselves on several key points

ONE: We make the bicycle around the customer, rather than make the customer fit the bicycle

TWO: We are the last retail bike store in Australia to sell purely custom made bicycles.

THREE: We take into consideration more that what your budget is and your favorite colour.

FOUR: Every part of your bike - is a reflection of you.

Each Frame Takes a Journey From:

Cad drawing template ¬Tube set ¬ Frame builder ¬ Measured and cut ¬ mitered and welded ¬ hand Sanded and painted ¬ heated and lacquered ¬ Baked then freighted ¬ Built and Fitted ¬ Ridden and Enjoyed

STEP ONE
Once the rider has been measured and all necessary requirements are taken into consideration, the tube set is selected.

STEP TWO
The tubing is cut to size and mitered to suit the head tube, bottom bracket, seat bar and other tubes which they will butt up against. This is one of the most technical parts of the frame building process as accuracy is of the highest importance.
The closer the joins are the easier it will be to weld. This will also increase the strength of the joins and reduce the weight of the frame.

The cut and mitered tubes are set in a frame jig - setting the seat angle, head angle and bottom bracket drop.
This will make it very easy for the frame builder to weld the frame, hassle free.

STEP FOUR
The set tubes are then welded together, brushed back with a wire brush to reduce metal residual keeping the welds clean.

STEP FIVE
After welding, customer may want their welds filled and sanded. This process is done by hand and takes around 1-2hours.
The frame is then taken to the painter where it is then primed for the artwork.

This is the spray booth where every frame is painted.

This specially designed booth has seen more than 20 000 frames pass through its doors .

This is where frames are baked to harden the paint work, speeding up the natural drying time.
Every coat of paint must be baked before the next layer is to go on. An average frame will take 3-4 hours to paint.
Once built and Painted the frame is delivered to the shop where the bike is assembled.
